One of the oldest IT cliches is that "it's expensive to be a pioneer".
Applied to new releases of software, this cliche has a great deal of value. New releases of SugarCRM are for playing with, not for production use unless you really know what you are doing and are prepared to spend a great deal of development time sorting out bugs and other glitches.
SugarCRM Release 5.1 became available in the summer of 2008. We don't think that it will be ready for production use until Winter 2008/Spring 2009.
There are some useful enhancements in 5.1, mostly aimed at software builders like SalesAgility. If you are already running 5.0 and have modifications and custom modules, our advise is to wait until the next major release (SugarCRM 6.0) before upgrading.

The demonstration site is an "out of the box" installation with no customisations and no tailoring performed. As you browse the application, it is worth remembering that most fields can be removed or changed and a huge variety of new fields can be added, and the application can be customised to show your users as many or as few modules as they need.
