SugarCRM Release 5.5 is now in a production release. This does not mean it is ready for production use. As we write this, some three weeks after the first announcement that it had been released for production, we have seen the SugarCRM forums filling up with issues related to the release. For production purposes, as always, wait until a couple of patches have been released before either migrating to it or deploying it for the first time.
5.5 is still a relatively minor release from a new feature perspective. The main thrust has been bug fixes. This is appropriate. SugarCRM has grown fast with function increments taking priority over quality. With 5.5.0 we're starting to see this trend reversed and the platform stabilising. To our mind this is a good thing. It is easier to lose a reputation than it is to gain it.
The main new functionality is:
- Activity Reports -From the Activities module, you can now run reports to view all activities related to a record or to a user during a specified time period.
- Emails - some upgrades to the editor and server connections
- Target Lists - You can now add records from the List View of Accounts, Contacts, Leads, and Targets to an existing target list.
